Rebamipide (OPC12759) is an orally bioactive gastroprotective agent. Rebamipide enhances the production of endogenous PGs (especially intragastric PGE2) by inducing the expression of COX-2, thereby protecting the gastric mucosa from injury. Rebamipide also has antiproliferation activity against gastric cancer/tumor cells. Rebamipide can be used for mucosal protection, gastroduodenal ulcer, gastritis and gastric cancer research.
